Under our Participatory Programme for the Protection of Chimpanzees (PAPPro-Chimps) CIRMAD trained some 27 persons drawn from the neighbouring communities of Ako-Mbembe Forest Reserve from 8-11 August, 2018 in Ako on beekeeping; and empowered them with necessary equipment (honey press, bee suits, smokers, etc.) for effective practice.
The training and empowerment for the conservation friendly, alternative IGA is to lessen human pressure on the Ako-Mbembe forest, as recommended in the Regional Action Plan for the Conservation of the Nigeira-Cameroon Chimpanzee which rates it as an “Important Priority Site” for chimpanzee conservation.
The community livelihood improvement project is supported by the Prince Bernhard Nature Fund.
